Community-based mental health supports for newcomers: Successes and Challenges – Nov 20, 2018

Thursday, November 8th, 2018

The Toronto Local Immigration Partnerships are hosting a forum on November 20, 2018, to promote conversations about the challenges, successes, and funding of community-based mental health programs for newcomers in our city.

Community-based mental health supports are important for the wellbeing of newcomers. Mental health supports with newcomers provide many with coping strategies, understanding, and a sense of belonging.

We will showcase the value of community-based mental health supports by presenting stories about:

  • Newcomer experiences in Canada and the mental health struggles that they face;
  • Community-based initiatives, programs, or services that have helped newcomers address mental health;
  • Funding challenges and why sustained financial support is necessary.

Presenting organizations include:

  • OCASI [Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants]
  • Madison Community Services
  • Hong Fook
  • Mennonite New Life Centre

Date: November 20, 2018

Time: 9:00am to 1:30pm

Registration: 9:00am to 9:30am

Location: WoodGreen Community Services, 815 Danforth Avenue, 3rd Floor, Room 5

Paid on-street parking and Green P parking lots are available in the area. The closest TTC subway stations are Pape or Donlands.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
