The TEQ LIP Newcomer Settlement Strategy 2017-20 was developed by the membership of the Toronto East Quadrant Local Immigration Partnership (TEQ LIP) over the spring and summer 2017 with input, direction and guidance from TEQ LIP’s Partnership Council, Action Groups, Newcomer Council, Steering and Executive Committee. It was approved by the Partnership Council in September 2017.
Following the approval of the strategic plan, TEQ LIP members and partners met in fall 2017 to develop an action plan for implementation of the strategy. TEQ LIP’s Action Plan 2017 – 2020 along with the TEQ LIP Newcomer Settlement Strategy provides the framework and pathway to help organizations in working together to support newcomers to settle, integrate and successfully contribute to Scarborough’s economic, social and cultural fabric. It addresses barriers and needs identified in the strategic planning process and reflects our values of diversity, equity, empowerment and inclusion.
The Toronto East Quadrant Newcomer Settlement Strategy 2017 – 2020 identified four strategic priorities for the partnership to address in the coming three years. Four Action Groups were established by the TEQ LIP to implement these four strategic priorities:
- Access to current and relevant information
- Meaningful employment and economic opportunities
- Newcomers’ physical and emotional health and well-being
- Welcoming community for newcomers to Scarborough
The Action Groups will work in collaboration to identify, plan and implement recommendations and initiatives focused on enhancing the service delivery system in Scarborough for newcomers. The Action Groups will ensure that the work done by TEQ LIP members and the community is meaningful and best reflects the actual needs and priorities of newcomers settling in Scarborough.
Each Action Group is comprised of members from the TEQ LIP Partnership Council, Newcomer Council, organizational stakeholders active in Scarborough and interested in advancing newcomer settlement, as well as TEQ LIP team members.
If you would like more information or are interested in getting involved with one of the Action Groups, please contact the TEQ LIP team.
