Call for Participants – Newcomer Artists

The Toronto East Local Immigration Partnership (TEQ LIP) and the City of Toronto Newcomer Office are inviting all immigrant artists to exhibit and sell their artistic treasures at the Newcomer Marketplace on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, 11:30am – 3:30pm at Toronto’s Nathan Phillip Square and City Hall as part of Toronto Newcomer Day.  Artwork can include paintings, jewelry, clothing and crafts

The Newcomer Marketplace is part of the Toronto Newcomer Day celebration.  It will be a day of activities and entertainment to officially welcome and celebrate newcomers. For more information, please contact Melissa Waterman at 416 431-5326 ext. 2405. Please send your completed application form to mwaterman@accesemployment.ca  Application deadline is Monday, April 30th, 2018   Space is limited.

BRIDGES Collaboration Forum 2018

The 6th annual BRIDGES 2018 Collaboration Forum was held on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Centennial College Event Centre. This Forum was organized by the Toronto East Quadrant Local Immigration Partnership in collaboration with all Toronto Quadrant LIPs and the Toronto Newcomer Office. 


Objective of the BRIDGES Forum is to help enhance and build the capacity of organizations of varying sizes and resources to engage effectively and impactfully in collaboration and partnerships and achieve results through collective action. Building on past BRIDGES Forums and developments in the social services sector and beyond, this year’s Forum included topics such as trends and promising practices in agency partnerships; using technology to support collaborations; non-profit – private sector partnerships; and how to tackle shared measurement and evaluation.

Service provider representatives from across the City of Toronto and from multiple sectors participated to learn, share and network.

Release of Toronto East Quadrant Newcomer Settlement Strategy 2017-2020

We are pleased to  announce that TEQ LIP’s Newcomer Settlement Strategy and Action Plan 2017-2020 have been approved

The strategy plan outlines four strategic directions for the work of the TEQ LIP over the next three years:

  • Access to Current and Relevant Information
  • Welcoming Community for Newcomers in Scarborough
  • Meaningful Employment and Economic Opportunities
  • Newcomer’s Physical and Emotional Health and Well-being

TEQ LIP has launched four Action Groups that will begin to work on these strategic priority areas. Action Groups will have their first meeting in January 2018.  Please contact us for more information at teqlip@gmail.com.

TEQ LIP Newcomer Strategy Launch & Celebration

TEQ LIP is pleased to announce and invite service providers and residents of Scarborough to the TEQ LIP Settlement Strategy 2017-2020 launch on November 22, 2017, 2.00pm – 4.00 pm.

We will also celebrate the achievements from 2012 to 2017 have interactive discussions during the day.

13th Month and Beyond

The 13th Month and Beyond information and discussion session was another successful event this year. It brought together over 40 service providers, Toronto City services, refugee sponsors and other community groups to discuss current trends and opportunities for working together to ensure the continued settlement success of government assisted and privately sponsored refugees in Scarborough.

This session looked at lessons learned and ongoing challenges for Syrian and other resettled refugee families, discussed how to address needs and use learning to ensure settlement success for government and privately-sponsored refugees who are yet to arrive.

Date: June 08, 2017 from 1.00 pm to 4.30 pm

TEQ LIP has partnered with City of Toronto in celebrating Toronto Newcomer Day 2017 Newcomer Marketplace event. Support newcomer entrepreneurs by visiting our Newcomer Marketplace on Nathan Phillips Square where talented newcomer artists will display their work for sale.

There were 8 artists had their booth with their art work. This time the exhibition was held at the Nathan Phillips Square where the artists were allowed to sell their creative art works to interested parties.

Francophone Community Services in Scarborough

TEQ LIP Francophone Committee has created a directory of Francophone Community Services in Scarborough. Please click here to access the document.

This document lists community services that can be accessed in French in Scarborough. Some are Francophone agencies, other have a French-speaking staff position. One side is English, and the Other in French. It can be reference by service providers as well as community members seeking services.

Some agencies are based in Scarborough, others are based downtown and offer itinerant services in Scarborough, and some do not have fixed locations (i.e. sexual health info line). The document can be kept as a reference by front-line workers, at the reception of organizations, and bulleting boards.
