Building Hope: Introduction to Suicide Prevention and Awareness in Service Delivery

Building Hope: Introduction to Suicide Prevention & Awareness in Service Delivery, looks to lay the foundation and introduce Service Providers to the basics of suicide, how suicide affects the population, how factors like Covid-19 and culture affect suicide, how practitioners can recognize and support clients experiencing thoughts of suicide, and resources for clients and practitioners. This 90 minute workshop will be facilitated by Nelani Ratnalingam, Registered Social Worker/Therapist from Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities.

Participants will learn about:

  • Intersections of suicide, culture, settlement and service delivery
  • Culturally competent methods of recognizing and supporting clients with thoughts of suicide
  • Resources for clients and staff

Keeping in mind the sensitive nature of this topic, participants are free to exit the workshop at any time and rejoin when and if comfortable. Resources will also be available at the start of the workshop.
